Hi, I’m Shelby (she/her/hers).

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (CT), Registered Drama Therapist, and Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator in Newington, CT.

More importantly, I’m a theatre kid, cat-mom, and fellow therapy-goer.

As a therapist, I got sick and tired of seeing clients get told that deep-breathing and “reframing” will solve all of their problems. That’s when I started focusing on evidenced-based approaches that target the “why” behind people’s distress. These approaches include relational therapy, psychodynamic therapy, drama therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and somatic therapy.

So, what does that mean?

  • It means I’m a human first. I want to get to know you, not just your problems.

  • It means I’m not a “blank slate” in session - you’ll know what I’m thinking and how I’m feeling.

  • It means I believe that what happened to you in the past impacts how you function now.

  • It means I’m an active participant in your therapy, not just someone telling you what to do to get better.

  • It means we’ll focus on what you feel, not just what you think.

  • It means that we’ll work towards accepting- not liking- what has happened in the past, so we can change what happens in the future.

  • And, it means we’ll laugh, swear, eat snacks, play board games, color, and get sarcastic when we’re in an uncomfortable moment.
